The Significance of the Alephbet

As with any language, the individual letters of the Alephbet are the basic building blocks of both reading and speaking. Furthermore, practice makes perfect in Hebrew as it does in anything else that needs to be studied and learned.

In short, the first thing you need to learn are the 22 basic characters highlighted in this chapter plus the way vowels are created from consonants etc. Consequently, you should go back through this chapter, study each individual letter and learn them by rote.

Perhaps the easiest way of learning the Alephbet is by writing each of the individual characters several times. Repeat this exercise for several days and you will find that you begin to recognize and distinguish between the different letters.

Once you can do this, you are ready to move on.
